Chen Renqian, born in 1984, is from Kaohsiung.
She graduated from the Graduate Institute of Fine Arts at Chang Jung Christian University with a Master's degree, specializing in meticulous flower-and-bird painting. Her works blend contemporary and classical elegance; luxurious yet not gaudy, exquisite yet not traditional.
Between 2015 and 2017, her works, including "Green Shade and Ripe Fruit," "Emerald Bamboo and Birdsong," "A Small Investment Yields Great Profits," "Emerald Shade and Verdant Whispers," and "Birdsong and Fragrant Flowers in Spring," garnered attention in the auction market. Among them, "Emerald Bamboo and Birdsong" sold for HK$160,000, setting a new record for young Taiwanese calligraphers and painters at Sotheby's, selling for more than three times its estimated price. Renqian's works emerged as dark horses, successfully participating in international Sotheby's and Shanghai Duoyunxuan Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Auctions, and are highly sought after by collectors both domestically and internationally.
She inherits the skills of renowned Taiwanese ink painting masters, utilizing the traditional apprenticeship system to learn from each other's strengths and weaknesses. Drawing inspiration from nature, her brushstrokes are delicate yet powerful, her colors elegant and distinct. Each composition is thoughtfully crafted and avoids clichés, demonstrating a masterful integration of techniques passed down from her teachers. This results in a uniquely personal style, opening a new chapter in traditional meticulous flower-and-bird painting. Renqian's works were highly appreciated and collected by collectors during her studies, and she received a scholarship to receive training from renowned domestic masters. In 2017, she held a solo exhibition in Taipei, attracting attention from numerous magazines and featuring interviews. Many of her exhibited works were subsequently acquired by buyers. Since 2018, she has returned to her birthplace, Kaohsiung, with new creations, and her works continue to be appreciated and favored by collectors.
